Returns & Refunds Policy

The short version

Every EXODUS garment is cut to order for one person, so we cannot accept change-of-mind returns. If something arrives faulty or not as ordered, we will repair, replace or refund it at no cost to you.

If you are unsure about sizing, contact us before you order. We would much rather check your measurements than have you receive something that does not fit.

1. Why we cannot accept change-of-mind returns

We hold no stock. Nothing is pre-made. When you place an order, leather is selected and cut for you specifically, to the size or measurements you gave us.

A returned custom garment cannot be resold to anyone else. Under New Zealand law, goods made to a consumer’s specification are not subject to a change-of-mind return right, and we do not offer one.

New Zealand law does not give a general cooling-off period for online purchases in any case. Retailers who offer change-of-mind returns do so voluntarily, and we cannot, because of how we make.

2. Cancelling an order

You may cancel within 12 hours of placing your order, for a full refund, provided cutting has not begun.

Email theexodusapparels@gmail.com with your order number. Refunds are processed within 5 working days to your original payment method.

After 12 hours, leather has been selected and cut and the order cannot be cancelled.

3. If something is wrong with your order

This is where your rights are strongest, and they are not affected by anything above.

Under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, goods sold to consumers in New Zealand must be of acceptable quality, match their description, and be fit for purpose. Nothing in this policy limits those rights.

Contact us within 30 days of delivery at theexodusapparels@gmail.com with your order number and photographs.

If there is a fault in materials or workmanship, or the garment does not match what you ordered, we will repair, replace or refund it — at no cost to you, including any return postage.

In many cases we can resolve a problem from photographs without you needing to send anything back. Where a return is necessary, we arrange and pay for it.

What counts as a fault
  • Stitching, seam or construction failure
  • Faulty zips, buckles, snaps or hardware
  • Damage in transit
  • A garment that does not match the description, colour or specification ordered
  • A garment cut incorrectly against the measurements you supplied
What is not a fault
  • Natural variation in the leather. Grain, texture and shade differ between hides. This is inherent to genuine leather and is not a defect.
  • A garment cut correctly to measurements that were taken incorrectly. We will always try to help, but this is not a fault.
  • Change of mind, including not liking the style, colour or fit once it arrives.
  • Damage from wear, misuse, or incorrect care — see our leather care guide.
  • Normal softening and creasing with wear. Leather is meant to do this.

4. How a fault claim works

  1. Email us within 30 days with your order number, a description of the problem, and clear photographs
  2. We assess it — usually within two working days
  3. We agree a remedy with you: repair, replacement or refund
  4. If a return is needed, we arrange and pay for the courier
  5. Refunds are processed within 5 working days of the remedy being agreed, to your original payment method

Where a failure is substantial, you may choose between a replacement and a refund. Where it is minor, we may repair it first, as the Consumer Guarantees Act allows.

5. Sizing problems

Because we cannot accept change-of-mind returns, sizing deserves care up front.

  • Use the size chart on every product page
  • Follow our measuring guide
  • Send us your measurements before you order and we will check them against the style you have chosen

If a garment does not match the measurements you gave us, that is a fault and Section 3 applies. If the measurements themselves were taken incorrectly, it is not — but contact us anyway. We will do what we reasonably can.

6. Orders that do not arrive

If your order has not arrived within 30 days of dispatch, contact us. We will trace it with the courier. If it is confirmed lost, we will remake or refund it at no cost to you.

7. Refunds

Where you have ordered more than one piece, each ships separately and is assessed separately. A fault with one item does not affect the others.

Refunds go to the original payment method. Allow 5 working days for us to process, plus your bank’s own processing time.

Where your bank applied an international transaction fee at purchase, that fee is charged by your bank and we cannot refund it.

8. Your rights

Nothing in this policy limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled a claim, you can contact Consumer Protection at consumerprotection.govt.nz or 0800 943 600, or apply to the Disputes Tribunal.
